Performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques, to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data. The Ultrasonographer maintains and calibrates equipment, records tests results, and updates patient records for referring physicians.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Clinical Skills
a. Makes adjustments to equipment in order to ensure proper technique, maintains supplies needed for specific radiographic procedures, and develops film by automatic processing in a timely and cost-conscious manner. b. Schedules examinations in coordination with other operating areas in order to ensure proper and efficient examination sequencing and maintains responsibility for coverage and call back services in area of responsibility.
2. Patient Safety and Quality
a. Performs high quality ultrasound examinations in a prudent and efficient manner, maintains examination records, and generates accurate reports for administration and other operating areas as needed. b. Prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure, providing instruction and obtaining clinical history and consent. Provides compassionate and dignified patient care by assisting in patient transfer to examination area and positioning on table, and by providing care to the patient following procedure completion. c. Verifies and ensures the quality of all patient examinations upon procedure completion and assists radiology in maintaining quality assurance standards and the integrity of studies performed within the department. d. Ensures that work areas and examination rooms are adequately stocked with equipment and supplies and are properly cleaned and disinfected such that a safe and reliable atmosphere for quality patient care may be provided. e. QA and verifies all work performed on the radiology computer system in an effort toward ensuring that patients are transported to and from the department in a timely and courteous manner and that procedures are performed as indicated. f. Observes and adheres to federal and state radiation safety guidelines and departmental and hospital policies and procedures pertinent to area of responsibility.
3. Collaboration and Partnership
a. Performs the duties of a Radiology Transporter as needed to meet the needs of the patient and department. b. Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, and training sessions in an effort to share his/her own expertise with others and further the quality of education and personal growth provided to new personnel, volunteers, and interning students. c. Contributes to student education and supervision and maintains knowledge of competency based clinical education plans in an effort toward supporting continuing education efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training, and Completion of an Ultrasound program
Licensure/Certification: BLS certification
ULTRASONOGRAPHER 2
The Ultrasound Tech 2 performs diagnostic sonographic examinations utilizing ultrasonic equipment to locate, evaluate and record critical physiological, pathological, and anatomical data. Produces ultrasound images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. The ultrasound technologist monitors and ensures safety of patient and staff. Performs patient screening by using established protocols. Utilizes departmental policy to perform safe operation of equipment and in all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Able to evaluate competency level of others as preceptor. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.

Coordinates Ultrasound schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.

Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.

Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
Adheres to infection control practices.
Equipment Maintenance
Routinely cleans equipment and probes and reports problems to service.
Has service performed monthly PM's on equipment.
Documentation/Communication
Complete Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of sonography or completion of an ultrasound program.
Licensure: American Registry of Diagnostic Sonography Registry, Active and unrestricted A.R.D.M.S certification OR CCI-RCS, 1 Specialty Registries, Basic Life Support, BLS - HCP
