Job Summary:

This position is responsible for all activities with bloodand blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units,thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products andwashing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by atechnologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.

Responsibilities:

• Handles blood and blood products by accessioning patient samples, spinning down the blood in the centrifugeand logging all blood products in the computer
• Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
• Prepare solutions used for laboratory testing and procedures
• Prepare specimens for testing under the guidance of a medical technologist.
• Ensures all computer entries are accurate.

• Places orders in LIS and files various documents

• Provides customer assistance by answering the phone for the department
• Receives customer orders and communicates these orders to the technologists
• Screens all other calls and directs them as appropriate

Experience:

Some experience in a laboratory setting. Anycombination of education, training and experience that has supplied thenecessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functionsof the job
