At Children’s Colorado, all echocardiograms are performed by sonographers specifically trained in pediatrics which supports our high standard of care for all of our patients. The Cardiac Sonographer performs clinical echocardiographic studies for congenital heart disease on patients ranging from neonatal to adult. As a leader in pediatric heart care, our Institute is the largest in the region, treating more than 20,000 patients each year. We offer multiple levels for this role, welcoming registry-eligible sonographers, and those with intermediate to extensive experience.
Education:Associate’s degree and/or graduation from a formal sonography program is required (all levels).
Experience:
Associate Cardiac Sonographer: No experience is required.
Cardiac Sonographer: One year of cardiac sonography experience.
Senior Cardiac Sonographer: Three years of cardiac sonography experience.
Advanced Cardiac Sonographer: Five years of cardiac sonography experience.
Equivalency:Completion of a two-year college program with emphasis on imaging modalities or other associated medical program; American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registry eligible.
Certifications: (may vary based on position level)
Obtain the Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS); or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential within one year from the date of program graduation.
Pediatric Registry required (requirement is for individual to obtain the certification within 18 months of hire for Associate level).
BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire (all levels)
