The role you’ll contribute:
The Advanced Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for provision/ supervision of respiratory clinical care responsibilities to age specific groups. Accepts shift supervisory responsibility in the absence of a Clinical Specialist or Supervisor. Respiratory Care processes include assessing, planning, implementing, delivering, and evaluating the treatment, care, and patient needs to achieve goals. Adheres to the AdventHealth Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Advanced Respiratory Therapists at AdventHealth Orlando:
·Are an integral part of the multi-disciplinary front-line patient care team in all areas of the hospital and work at the top of their license and Scope of Practice
·Initiate, operate, manage, and discontinue cardio-pulmonary life support equipment
·Work to reduce patient mortality/ICU length of stay through use of clinical and critical thinking skills.
·Through patient evaluation, guided by protocols and prescriber care plans, modify the plan of care, up to discontinuation of service for:
oPatients receiving ventilatory life support, advanced ventilatory life support, and oxygen therapy
·Manage the utilization of inhaled medical gasses including heliox, oxygen, and nitric oxide
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
·Associate degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Active and Current Florida State License as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
For Altamonte and Celebration: Current NRP, and PALS certification
For East Orlando: Current PALS certification
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
·Critical thinking and patient assessment skills, with the ability to evaluate and modify plan of care
·Ability to ensure infection control
·Effective oral and written communication skills, including documentation in the patient care record (EMR), and ability to use and adapt to computer systems and applications
·Airway management skills, including insertion and maintenance of a patent airway, including endotracheal intubation
·Ability to provide optimal respiratory support including administration of oxygen and other inhaled gasses, administer medications including inhaled vasodilators and nebulized opioids to the respiratory system, lung expansion, and bronchial hygiene therapy
·Ability to appropriately initiate, operate, manage, and liberate non-invasive, invasive, and advanced modes of mechanical ventilation, including High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilation
·Ability to perform ABG Puncture, analysis, arterial cannulation using sterile procedure, and hemodynamic monitoring
·Ventilator patient transportation
·Knowledge and skill to care for the pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient in a health care delivery system
·Knowledge and skill to care for a patient in the Emergency Room
·For Altamonte, Celebration, and Winter Park: Knowledge and skill to care for the neonatal patient.Newborn oxygen therapy, newborn arterial blood gas sampling, newborn stabilization, and newborn ventilator care (as applicable)
·Ability to accept leadership responsibility in the absence of Clinical Specialist / Supervisor, as directed.
Preferred Qualifications:
·Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program
·Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump Management and Initiation
·Infant / Pediatric experience (campus specific)
·Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
·Active RRT-ACCS credential (Registered Respiratory Therapist – Adult Critical Care Specialist) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC)
·For Apopka, Kissimmee, and stand-alone EDs: PALS and NRP
·For Winter Park and East Orlando: Current NRP certification
·For East Orlando: Current NRP certification

·Assesses and makes appropriate decisions and interventions according to patient evaluation / needs. Sets patient goals, assisting in the development of a plan of care along with the multidisciplinary team. Evaluates / interpret diagnostic data including but not limited to lab results and monitoring data. Communicates effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
·Satisfactorily completes department orientation, airway management certification, critical care training program, Infant/ Pediatric Emergency training program (campus specific), and advanced critical care-training program, and is proficient at all applicable procedures defined below.
·Practices standard precautions and enforces safety regulations according to hospital policies on a continual basis. Documents and charges for procedures accurately and completely to ensure quality standards set by the department and hospital.
·Responds to Code Blue emergencies immediately providing CPR according to the American Heart Association guidelines. Performs airway maintenance including proper use of manual resuscitators, suctioning, endotracheal intubation, extubation, assists with bronchoscopy, assists with tracheostomy tube insertion, performs tracheostomy tube change, oral and nasal pharyngeal airway insertion, LMA insertion, manages patients with laryngectomy. Provides procedural respiratory support.
·Through use of protocols / prescriber care plans, chart review, and conferring with multidisciplinary team, determines proper therapy delivery device/ frequency, making appropriate changes/ recommendations to plan of care. Delivers inhaled medications, including inhaled vasodilators and nebulized opioids, bronchial hygiene therapy, lung expansion therapy and manages patients receiving inhaled gasses.
·Provides respiratory care to patients on invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilators. Initiates, operates, transports, and liberates conventional and advanced modes of ventilation per policy and procedure/prescriber care plan. Reviews chest radiology reports as necessary Initiates, maintains, transports and monitors heliox and nitric oxide (campus specific). Prones/ ambulates ventilated patients.
·Properly performs hemodynamic procedures to include arterial cannulation using sterile technique, assembly, calibration; assisting with pulmonary artery catheter insertion, calibration; performs cardiac output and hemodynamic / cardiopulmonary profiles. Maintains hemodynamic lines (campus specific). Initiates, manages, transports Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps. Ambulates patients on Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (campus specific).
·Proactively initiates process improvement ideas. Assists with clinical instruction and precepting and serves as a resource person to lower level therapists. Supports hospital and department mission, goals, and department metrics.Takes leadership responsibility in a unit or at a campus is the absence of a Clinical Specialist or Supervisor. Performs other duties as requested by department leadership.
·Obtains, performs, and reports findings of blood gas and co-oximetry analysis. Performs quality control as needed. Setup and perform oximetry, apnea, TC and ETCO2 monitoring as ordered by physician. Performs EKGs after hours (campus specific)
·May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth Orlando non-waived Point of Care training.
