The primary role of the Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide back -up coverage for the nursing staff in Primary Care (PC) including the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), Specialty & Acute Care (SAC) and the Surgical Clinics. The duty st ation is the Columbus VA, with occasional travel to the CBOC's to provide coverage. The incumbent functions as a team member, supporting and coordinating the nursing care for a panel of patients and at times is called upon to provide instruction to Practical Nurses and Health Technicians. In addition to basic nursing assessments and skills, s/he will be trained to assist with a variety of complex treatments that occur in several specialty areas including Urgent Care and Radiology. S/he will be required to assist with some non-OR procedures. Procedures may include spinal taps, liver biopsies, dermatology, podiatry procedures, thyroid biopsies, wound care, bone marrow biopsies and thoracentesis.
