Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking to hire a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) 2, whom will report to the Diagnostic Laboratories Team Leader (DLTL) of our new Histocompatibility and Immunogenetic Laboratory and whom will perform routine clinical pathology testing and instrument management of laboratory services under occasional guidance. The MLS 2 has the authority, responsibility, and accountability for the accurate performance of laboratory test methodologies. These tests are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and the evaluation of the patient's response to treatment. The MLS 2 applies clinical knowledge to achieve accurate clinical test results, which leads to quality patient care outcomes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides patient-focused care in a clinical setting through the accurate performance of routine and complex tests through the pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic stages.
• Performs qualitative and quantitative analytical procedures, including reagent preparation and appropriate quality control, according to required protocols, with precision and accuracy in a timely and efficient manner.
• Demonstrates knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships as well as physiological conditions affecting test results.

Position Shift:

• VUMC, Main Campus (eventually, the new laboratory location in MetroCenter), Nashville, Tennessee. Fulltime, Monday-Friday, 1^st Shift with every 3^rd weekend rotations.

VUMC Diagnostic Laboratories Summary

Histocompatibility & Immnogenetics Laboratories Department Summary

An exciting part of our "Laboratory Transformation" project is the creation of our Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics laboratory. This high-complexity laboratory will provide services to our transplant center, one of the country's largest and busiest transplant programs. The VUMC transplant center performs renal, cardiac, liver, lung, pancreas, and bone marrow/HSC transplants, as well as multi-organ procedures.

Our laboratory team will work closely with transplant surgeons/physicians/coordinator to measure and minimize the pre-transplant immunological risk. Following transplantation, we will monitor the early onset of allo-antibodies for a rapid treatment to prevent rejection complications.

We are looking for bright, energetic, and creative candidates. They must have a record of independent work under complex conditions. They must be curious learners, self-motivated and capable of conducting multiple tasks with great attention to details. They should have a strong desire for ownership in developing this new laboratory, excellent communications skills, and strong work ethic.

The ideal candidate should have previous experience of clinical histocompatibility or, previous experience performing next generation sequencing and/or detecting antibodies using liquid arrays and flow cytometric assays.

A preferred skill set will be to have previous experience in the implementation of a HLA-specific lab information system and solid MS Office Suite experience.

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING - (NOVICE): Demonstrates proficiency of diagnostic testing in practical applications. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results.
DATA ANALYSIS - (NOVICE):- Possesses sufficient fundamental proficiency to successfully demonstrate data analysis in practical data analysis applications of moderate difficulty. Navigates within established technology environments to locate, validate, extract, and format data for data analysis. Position Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) from accredited institution (Required)
• < 1 year relevant experience, preferably >1 year in a Histocompatibility Laboratory
• Successful completion of CAHEA or NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program or BS from accredited institution with major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science and ASCP technologist generalist or categorical certification or equivalent certification; or equivalent education and experience per CLIA and TN Medical Laboratory Board (1200-06-01-.22)for personnel performing high complexity testing. Allowed 90 days to obtain State of Tennessee license. Considered 'in training' prior to license approval.

Desired:

• Prior Histocompatibility experience
• Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS), Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), or categorical Certification with either ASCP or AMT
• State of Tennessee categorical Medical Technologist licensure
