We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community.DescriptionJob Description:Emory's Sports Performance And Research Center (SPARC) at Flowery Branch is seeking a candidate to fill a postdoctoral research fellow position in the area of machine learning and artificial intelligence of injury prevention and sports performance enhancement. The primary project for this position will be focused on the identification of key predictive factors of hamstring injury to support more targeted application of hamstring injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for safer return to sport in professional American football players. This position will bridge collaborations with Dr. Gregory Myer's injury prevention and sport performance team (Emory SPARC) and Dr. Anant Madabhushi's artificial intelligence and machine learning team (Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory and Departments of Radiology and Imaging Sciences, Biomedical Informatics (BMI), and Pathology). The joint position will be focused towards deploying machine learning and/or artificial intelligence, specifically DTI-based radiomics analyses and integrated 3D biomechanics, to train and optimize prediction models that identify athletes at risk for hamstring injury with enhanced sensitivity and specificity. Emory SPARC houses a state-of-the-art biomechanics and neuroscience lab and offers unique opportunities to develop novel technology and pursue advanced scientific research. The facility includes a dedicated research MRI suite, state-of-the-art motion capture technologies, and a range of electrophysiology equipment. As a critical component of this research, the candidate will work with markerless motion capture and machine vision techniques, with direct applications in virtual reality sports simulation, biomechanical assessments, rehabilitation, and neuroimaging. During their fellowship, the candidate can expect to further develop their technical expertise and scientific skills and will be encouraged to disseminate their work to the broader scientific community. Candidates should be comfortable leading their own project, but also working as part of a larger research team. The position is a temporary appointment that will renew yearly depending on satisfactory performance and available funding. Appointments may not exceed 5 years. Minimum Qualifications:A doctoral degree or equivalent in an appropriate field. Strong scientific writing ability and excellent communication skills. The ability to work effectively with colleagues on complex multi- disciplinary problems. Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigators. Preferred Experience:Expertise in machine learning applied to machine vision, human biomechanics and/or muscle MR imaging is strongly preferred. A firm understanding of good software development practice and organizational skills are encouraged. The candidate must be comfortable working with data from various modalities (e.g., kinematic time series data vs muscle diffusion data) and be skilled with advanced analytic programs for machine learning and artificial intelligence-based analyses.
