Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Radiology

Your Role:

The APP is skilled in consenting; writing H&P, orders, plans of care, problem lists, medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, and procedure notes that meet compliance standards, organizing and leading care teams, and have a passion for teaching in an academic environment.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.


Key Responsibilities:

• The APP reviews Procedural Radiology consults for appropriateness and procedural care coordination based on medical records, clinic visits, and imaging.
• The APP works closely with Nurse Coordinators and Surgery schedulers for patient scheduling and throughput.
• The APP works in collaboration with diagnostic and interventional radiology physicians providing care to outpatient and inpatient radiology patients.
• The APP is skilled at writing H&Ps, orders, plans of care, problem lists, medication reconciliation, discharge summaries, and procedure notes.
• The APP is skilled in clinic or telehealth visits performing consults and follow-up in an outpatient clinic.
• The APP works within a hospital setting for patient's undergoing, or those who have undergone, procedures through initial inpatient consults, rounding on inpatients, and managing lists of patients with drains, filters, and other continuum of care needs.
• The APP coordinates radiologic procedures on a day to day basis by providing guidance to the residents/fellows around preparation, consenting, and coordinating disposition of care.
• The APP acts as a resource to and liaison between the procedure team members especially in the pre-procedure, holding, and recovery unit.

Preferable:

• 2 years or more as an APP
• Knowledge in practice and billing compliance standards.
• Experience in an academic clinical setting
• Experience in Radiology a plus

Master's Degree (or equivalent experience) and < 1 year experience. 12 months of nursing experience preferred; Inpatient acute care advanced practice nursing experience desirable.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration (LCR):

• Registered Nurse Required

Additional Qualification Information:

• Prefer National Specialty Board Certification, TN APN certificate/certificate of fitness to prescribe, eligible for DEA

Sensory

• Occasional: Vision: Clarity of near vision at 20 inches or less and far vision at 20 feet or more with depth perception, peripheral vision, color vision.
• Frequent: Noise: May include exposure to occupational noise levels which equal or exceed an 8-hr time-weighted average of 85 decibels, requiring enrollment in VUMC's Hearing Conservation Program which includes training, use of hearing protection, and periodic audiometry.
• Continuous: Communication: Expressing or exchanging written/verbal/electronic information.

Environmental Conditions

• Occasional: Chemicals and Gasses: Medications, cleaning chemicals, oxygen, other medical gases used in work area.
• Occasional: Pathogens: Risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other contagious illnesses.
• Occasional: Radiation: May be exposed to occupational radiation, requiring enrollment in VUMC's Radiation Safety Program which includes training, use of personal protective equipment with lead shielding, and personal dose monitoring.
• Occasional: Climate: Ability to withstand exposure to atmospheric extremes including heat, cold, humidity, and barometric pressure changes.
