You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. ["Psychiatrists are expected to provide health care services to veteran patients enrolled at the Fayetteville VA Coastal Healthcare System. Services will be needed from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays except when providing on-call coverage. Services will include but are not limited to performing initial psychiatric evaluations, conducting medication management clinics and providing appropriate treatment and management for general psychiatric problems on a predominantly outpatient basis. Obtain appropriate consultation from specialists/ancillary services and communicate pertinent medical information to other health care providers/institutions. Enter all diagnostic and treatment information, and related reports into the computerized patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the visit. Documentation of health care provided, including all physician orders, must satisfy Department of Veteran Affairs and local VAMC policies/procedures, as well as meet external accreditation agency requirements for safe delivery of patient care. The physician must possess computer skills to access the CPRS as utilized by the VAMC. Orientation to CPRS will be provided by the VAMC. Prescribe medications for patients according to the established drug formulary at this facility. Variance from the formulary should occur only when clinically indicated and in compliance with the procedures established. Any administrative requirement for referral and/or transfer to another medical facility will be completed by Health Administration Service personnel, and only as approved by the Chief of Staff or designee prior to transfer to an non-VA facility. Perform services within the VA policies and procedures and the regulations of the Medical Staff By-Laws of the VAMC. To provide psychiatric consultation to other services at the VAMC and associated community clinics when required. The Transition Psychiatrist will provide above duties within context of Veterans who are in need of psychiatric services and are in transition or unestablished as patients in the Behavioral Health Specialty Clinic. This may also include Veterans who are unestablished in Primary Care Service Line as patients and are in need of psychiatric services.
