Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. In this role, the incumbent will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate selected programs related to continuing education, staff development, clinical orientation, learning, and quality improvement as it pertains to Therapeutic Infusions. The RN applies evidence-based practice while providing care based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being. The RN's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses). The RN assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction, and acts as the patient's advocate. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives, as well as customer service programs. The RN will have communication skills to include self-awareness, conflict management, negotiation, advocacy, listening, and techniques for delivering critical information. The RN will serve Veterans who are treated in or require diagnostic procedures in the Therapeutic Infusion Clinic. The RN performs procedures/infusions within the approved scope of practice and based on documented competencies and initiates appropriate management and treatment modalities. The nurse executes medical regimens including administering chemotherapy, biotherapy, intravenous medications, intravenous therapy, and other medical treatments. The RN will work collaboratively to coordinate services including referrals for care outside Therapeutic Infusion/Oncology Clinic.
