The Peri Operative Assistant performs a variety of duties under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services/CAS Nurse Manager to ensure a smooth flowing operation of the ambulatory surgical center. The Peri-Operative Assistant maintains and updates pre-admission surgical schedule for patients which includes daily communication to keep everyone apprised of new appointments or updates. This position serves as a liaison between staff, physicians, the auxiliary departments, and the public to provide an optimum level of care to infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. In addition, this position requires the ability to safeguard and maintain professional ethics regarding information necessary for effective job performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answers the telephone and triages issues to the appropriate person or physician office in a professional manner.
• Schedules pre-admission testing appointments for patients and places into ORMIS scheduling system.
• Communicates with physician office regarding required testing, documents and paperwork for pre-surgical patient.
• Collaborates with the total joint coordinator to schedule patients for their pre-operative education classes.
• Schedules after hours PAT appointments in ORMIS.
• Coordinates with Pre-admission testing Nurse, lab, registration and Radiology Department to schedule patients for appropriate testing needed prior to surgery.
• Organizes and prepares charts 48 hours prior to surgery and checks for required paperwork.
• Ensure all pre-admit testing orders are signed and entered into the EMR by physician.
• Assists patients/family to their room.
• Cleans/prepares room and stretcher for next patient.
• Copies, collates, scans and faxes materials and documents as needed.
• Restocks CAS suites daily with routine supplies.
• Orders/stocks supplies and keeps CAS Coordinator or designee informed of discrepancies on deliveries.
• Checks CAS stock supplies routinely for outdates.
• Assists with moving patients in the room as directed by the RN.
• Assists/educates responsibilities of the volunteers.
• Assists department with other duties as determined by the CAS Nurse Manager/Director of Surgical Services.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

Previous related experience in the health care setting preferred.

Education:

High School graduate or equivalent.
