Responsibilities will include daily rounding, admitting and discharging patients, and coordinating transfers from the unit. Familiarity with devices such as Impellas, intra-aortic balloon pumps, LVADs, and ECMO are a plus. The APP will be expected to perform and assist with procedures such as central venous lines, arterial lines, and pulmonary artery catheters. In addition, the CICU APP will serve as the liaison with the palliative care team and work closely with bedside nursing to ensure patient goals of care are clearly met. In addition, the APP will be responsible for fielding phone calls from referring doctors seeking transfer of their patients to UNC Cardiology. They will work closely with the Patient Logistics Center to facility transfer and hand-off of care. Specific responsibilities will include: participation in daily rounds, interpreting EKGs, labs, radiologic and cardiac tests, examining patients and reporting on abnormal findings, assessing the function of cardiac devices such as LVADs and balloon pumps, preparing discharge summaries and coordinating outpatient follow-up, working with consultants, communicating with the cath/EP lab to ensure timely procedures for our ICU patients, and help to ensure proper sign-out to the night CICU team. Summary:An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) functions as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high quality, cost effective care to patients within the APPs scope of practice in collaboration with a supervising physician. The APP reflects the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and other regulatory and accreditation standards.Responsibilities:1. Clinical- Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results. Develops appropriate differential diagnoses. Develops and implements treatment plans including prescribing/ordering of appropriate evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedules appropriate follow-up management.
