Position Overview: Provides laboratory services and supervisory support by directing the work of phlebotomy staff that are collecting blood and urine specimens in the clinical laboratory and performing EKG.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to the following):
* Assists in the performance of specimen collection in accordance with medical group and governmental standards
* Supervises the daily activities of Phlebotomists. Oversees the accurate and appropriate collection of specimens.
* Reviews the technique used by phlebotomists and provides re-training if needed.
* Evaluates workflow in the phlebotomy area and suggests methods to improve turn around time
* Monitors supply inventory and maintains supply area
* Participates in professional development activities for the staff
* Completes and submits time cards for the staff
* Assists staff with difficult draws and pediatric draws
* Contacts patients and doctors if incorrect specimens are drawn and arranges a "no wait" visit for recollection of specimens
* Directs staff coverage and multiple phlebotomy sites so that all operational hours are covered.
* Assists with operational supervision of the laboratory as needed
* Assists with pre-employment testing within Mount Kisco Medical Group
* Maintains patient confidentiality
* Promotes staff safety practices
* Performs related work as required

Typical Physical Demands:
* Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
* Frequent standing and walking for long periods of time.
* Lifting and carrying supplies
* Visual acuity and normal color perception.
Working Conditions: Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a medical group and laboratory are possible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Knowledge of Clinical laboratory procedures for specimen collection and EKG
* Ability to evaluate staff for competency.
* Knowledge of supervisory principles to oversee the work of phlebotomists
* Knowledge of laboratory test requirements.
* Knowledge of Medical Terminology and the ability to interact with Medical Staff regarding specimen collection.
* Knowledge of safety requirements and the ability to recognize and provide correction to hazardous conditions.
* Skill in performing blood collection for all age groups of patients.
* Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
* Skill in laboratory documentation.
* Skill in identifying and resolving problems.
* Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
* Ability to evaluate and use statistics and other data.
* Ability to communicate clearly.

Qualifications and Education:
* Phlebotomy certification preferred.
* BS Degree in Medical Technology or an equivalent science and Certification as a Medical Technologist (ASCP or equivalent).
* NYS professional licensure is required.
