Prepares measures and administers radiopharmaceuticals for use in diagnostic and therapeutic studies. Performs and assists with nuclear medicine studies. Is responsible for patient safety protocols. Maintains all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements. Participates in CQI activities.The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for performing an age-specific patient assessment prior to and during the Nuclear Medicine procedure, preparing the room and the patient for the procedure. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for the operation of diagnostic Nuclear Medicine equipment for the performance of all Nuclear Medicine procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist contributes to the efficient operation of the department, promotes the philosophy and ensures the quality and continuity of patient care. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs diagnostic testing, Prepares, measures and administers radionuclides for use in diagnostic and therapeutic, as authorized and performs all duties related to these functions.

Calibrates equipment.

Performs diagnostic exams on patients as prescribed by physician.

Uses scanners or scintillation cameras for detection of radiation emitted to produce images.

Measures radioactivity using Geiger counters, dose calibrators and scintillation detectors.

Follows radiation safety techniques and policies in the use and disposal of radioactive materials.

Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population.

Instructs and prepares patient for exams.

Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing exams.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Possesses and utilizes aseptic technique during invasive procedures.

Participates in a call rotation according to schedule after hours, weekends and holidays.

Compiles and maintains quality assurance information.

Interacts professionally with Physicians, co-workers, Patients and families

Helps with the transportation of patients to and from the Radiology Department.

Assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in supply management, labor costs and/or patient care.
