The role you’ll contribute:

Under the direction of a cardiologist and/or a radiologist, performs radiographic procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision.  Will perform a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment to apply prescribed ionizing radiation.  Will cross-train into other roles in the Cath lab/IR, except as circulating nurse, as needed. 

The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator performs a wide range of technical skills, which are utilized during a variety of Cardiovascular or Interventional Radiology procedures to provide an efficient, comfortable, and safe examination of all patients. The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator is proficient in all aspects of angiography. preparation, assessment. documentation and monitoring consistent with the policies, procedures and processes of the Cardiovascular Services department and Hospital Administration. The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator adheres to the guidelines and standards of professional practice associations.

The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator will actively participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The will rotate call based on-call schedule.

The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator will be responsible for precepting new technologists to the Cath Lab suite in the scrub and recording positions of Cath Lab team.  They will be responsible for coordinating weekly education assignments and will complete the clinical skill checkoffs during the 90-day orientation period.  The Cath Lab Tech Clinical Educator will work with the Lead Cath Lab RN to complete the 90-day orientation paperwork for Cath lab RNs.

A four-week notice is required for resignation/transfer, as well as any change in employment status resulting in decreased hours worked.  Takes call according to Cath/IR Call and Holiday schedule Policy. Is responsible for finding coverage for shifts scheduled to work and call shifts scheduled.  Responds in hospital within 30 minutes for any STEMI or On Call notifications.

· Precept new Techs to CVT role in Cath Lab

· Educate new RNs to the Recording role in the Cath Lab

· Participate in Cath Lab education and accreditation as needed

· Is consistent in obtaining high quality images using digital x-ray equipment. 

· Transfers images to appropriate storage medium. 

· Learns physician preferences and routines and meets these in a timely manner. 

· Is able to gather all supplies and set up a sterile field for each procedure that is performed in the Cath lab/IR Suite.  Inspects and documents findings of protective wear according to policy. 

· Monitors radiation safety for staff, physicians, patients and any observers involved in procedures performed in the Cath lab.

· Uses stock judiciously and in a cost-effective manner. 

· Demonstrates the ability to provide post procedure hemostasis and correctly applies post procedure dressing.

· Participates in patient/family educational/supportive needs.

· Participates in quality improvement efforts.  

· He/she will be expected to participate in Performance Improvement projects 

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

• ARRT registered or eligible
• BLS
• Graduate of 2 Year Radiology Tech programs
• ACLS
• Prior Cath Lab Experience REQUIRED
