Reporting to the Manager, the Database Administrator IV, works independently on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various complex factors. Within broadly defined parameters, exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results for the purpose of managing and planning technology system implementations and enhancements to existing technology systems. Responsibilities include designing databases and interfaces to support defined business requirements and assisting in the implementation of databases, interfaces, and applications by leading project teams. Develops client specifications, assists with planning and coordinating client testing and training personnel; and provides a formal support turnover to the support services responsible for production support. Provides guidance to Database Administrators

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

• Develops proposed system and database design, and interface specifications based upon identified business needs, employing technical and specific business knowledge.

• Coordinates user/IT (information Technology) groups to identify solutions to business needs. Identifies options for meeting business requirements. Communicates designs to Programmer Analysts and Systems Analysts for implementation of technology systems.

• Develops database support models for assigned databases including archiving, purging, and maintenance standards. Identifies interface support methodology including issue notification process.

• Performs database and interface support according to identified procedures.

• Develops training, testing, and security plans to ensure design meets defined business requirements. Coordinates plans as needed.

• Represents assigned client/application base to the IT department.

• Works with Analysts in order to identify and assess organizational strategies such as work flow and systems/applications in order to meet clients' operational needs.

• Functions in the role of project manager or project coordinator for assigned projects.

• Assures smooth turnover of projects, both at the initiation as well as at the conclusion, to support services within IT as well as in customer departments.

• Assists in the development of the IT Department's policies and procedures and recommends to management suggestions for improvement.

• Provides ongoing training to clients and IT staff as needed.

• Collaborates with IT department, recommending appropriate system back-up procedures; act as liaison between Clients and IT Department and personnel in addressing issues and non functional operating conditions; includes opening, updating, and documenting resolutions in the problem management system.

• Act as a mentor and resource to Database Administrators. Represents Department Management as requested when Manager unavailable to attend meetings and conferences.

• Provide leadership for business integration team under guidance of manager. Serves as a role model for IT staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a work related field/discipline from an accredited college or university

Experience: Eight (8) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Additional Information:

Current Epic Bridges Certification

HL7 Standard knowledge, particularly orders and results

Experience in radiology, pharmacy, and other clinically related interface development

Lyniate Rhapsody Interface Engine Basic and Associate Certifications

Experience as a Rhapsody System Administrator

In depth knowledge and experience in:

Linux administration to include ssh, scp, vi, grep, rsync, find, and other Linux/Unix utilities.

Scripting to include shell scripting (preferably bash), PERL, javascript, regular expressions, and HTML (particularly for Web Page Maintenance)

MySQL, SQL queries, tables, store procedures etc., preferably on Linux.

Networking as it relates to firewalls/VPNs and complex server architectures (DR site configuration, Local Clustering, etc.)

Familiarity with Windows AD users, domains, net groups, etc.

Intermediate skill level utilizing MS 365 Office Suite as well as MS Visio and Project.
