Job Summary

Assists department manager and/or supervisor with implementation of new MRI equipment. This includes performing in-services for technical staff, documenting quality assurance (QA) efforts and organizing on-going support for MRI as related to PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems). Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents and faculty. Responsible for producing quality images following established departmental and QA protocols using independent judgment and initiative. Performs general and specialized MRI procedures which meet the department's standard of quality.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

• Partially accountable for work product of others and functions as a group leader. Communicates instructions, assigns work to outers, monitors progress and workflow, establishes work standards, schedules work, and provides input into managers actions, including performance appraisals.

• Arranges on-going training for staff relative to MRI within their respective sections, i.e., Neuro, Body, and Cardiac.

• Compiles statistical and QA data as needed. Works with section chief radiologist to set imaging parameter and protocols.

• Works with both MRI and support vendors to trouble shoot issues and optimize system protocols.

• Must have high level knowledge of MRI, MRI Department and support services to manage both the daily outpatient and Inpatient schedule in coordination with the radiology resource nurse (RSN).

• Acts as a solid resource for other MRI technologists and staff regarding policies and procedures, imaging techniques and coordination of complex imaging procedures.

• Notifies appropriate personnel of supply requirements; makes recommendations concerning purchase, maintenance and/or repair of equipment.

• Participates in orientation and training of assigned staff, students, residents and faculty.

• Prepares contrast media and recognizes and responds to allergic reactions to contrast media.

• Prepares patient for exam, i.e. identifying oneself, explaining procedures, confirming patient ID and checking correctness of the order.

• Prepares room and equipment. Troubleshoots equipment failures and reports problems to the appropriate individual.

• Produces quality images following established departmental and QA (Quality Assurance) protocols to include technique, views, position, proper labeling and patient ID (Identification).

• Reports problems concerning staffing requirements, work methods, staff morale etc., and recommend solutions as appropriate to supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Completion of an accredited Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) program or Radiologic technology program

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists -Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification (MRI)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

• Ability to plan, organize, develop tactical plans and set priorities.

• Knowledge of billing process.

• Knowledge of Imaging processes and techniques, methods and equipment.

• Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

• Knowledge of MRI safety
