Details Posted: 20-Jun-22 Location: Mason City, Iowa Salary: Open Categories: Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants Internal Number: 691157 MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center has an excellent full-time opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner to join our new Perioperative Clinic located in Mason City, Iowa.The selected Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide competent and quality patient care to the indicated patient populations in both the inpatient and/or outpatient settings as required and work collaboratively with physicians. The duties of the NP cannot be rigidly defined, but the following description characterizes common expectations of the opportunity. Daily duties include Pre-Anesthesia assessments prior to patients surgical procedure.The selected NP will work rotating 10 hour days, four shifts per week (no weekends).Essential functions include:Completes thorough medical history, completes physical examination (where indicated) per surgical procedure guidelines.Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic skills in ordering lab, radiology or other diagnostic tests required for evaluation of illness, and as indicated per surgical procedure guidelines.Interprets, at least to the point of recognizing deviations from normal, common laboratory, radiologic, cardio graphic and other routine diagnostic procedures used to identify pathophysiologic processes.Critically evaluates lab results on new and former clinic encounters and hospital admissions to establish a record of the patient's current health status to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.Prescribes medications or treatments appropriate to the diagnosis in accordance with the specific governing board for the profession.Works with and communicates with collaborating/supervising physicians, other health care professionals, patients, and families.Documents clearly, consistently, in a timely manner all patient care activities and follow-up care.Codes appropriately, based on the documentation and established standards.Refers patients appropriately specialists as neededInstructs and counsels patients regarding physical and mental health and health promotion.Directs other clinic staff in the provision and execution of medical care.Provides immediate evaluation and treatment for emergency medical problems, instituting necessary procedures and directing emergency personnel in care and transport of the patient.Is knowledgeable about and appropriately utilizes community services, agencies and resources for patients and their familiesAssures quality patient care by appropriate monitoring and evaluation and participation in Quality Improvement activities.Represents the interests of the patient to the medical staff and other departments of the health care systemParticipates in the required activities of Peri-Operative Clinic, MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and/or contracted agencies.Participates in and assists in the development of staff educational in-service meetings and promotes the application of new knowledge relevant to the surgical patient.Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure.Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPAA regulations. .Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and the Sisters of Mercy reflecting the organizations Mission, Values, and cultural beliefs.Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager, or department head.Demonstrated competency as a Nurse Practitioner through previous experience is preferred.
