This position is located in the Cardiovascular Hybrid Room at Duke University Hospital which currently consists of 2 hybrid rooms with expansion to a 3rd hybrid room in the future. Work schedule: Monday - Friday, Four 10 hours shifts per week, 6am-4:30pm. Call, Nights, Weekends and Holidays as per unit needs. Occ Summary The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (CVIS) will utilize professional cardiovascular theory, technology and processes to implement direct patient care on adult patients that require diagnostic or therapeutic procedures within the cardiovascular service. Demonstrates role-specific competence and assists physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias in the Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Hybrid OR specializing in the care of patients undergoing angioplasty, stent placement, vascular procedures, mechanical support device placement (IABP, non-durable ventricular assist device, etc.), EP devices, cardiac ablations, and tilt table exams. Work Performed Assist the physician during invasive and noninvasive procedures to treat cardiac and peripheral vascular disease and cardiac arrhythmias. Maintain high standards to achieve quality patient care. Communicate continuously with the physician about the patient's condition. May perform any of the following: diagnostic catheterization procedures on adult patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Interventional procedures which may include any of the following: PTCA, stent prep and placement, IABP placement and operation. EP procedures may include any of the following; EP studies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD, cardiac ablations, and tilttable exams. Procedural requirements: Room preparation and breakdown including but not limited to: radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, stocking rooms and room cleanup. Prepare sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type. Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulseoximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the electronic health record and enter into hemodynamic and X-ray systems. Operate all physiologic and radiographic equipment safely and correctly. Assess procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness. Obtain supplies for individual cases and ensure all appropriate needs of the Cath Lab/EP Lab team are met. Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing dosimeter badges, lead aprons, goggles). Educate the patient of procedure expectations before, during and after the procedure including post-procedural limitations and restrictions. Participate in performance improvement activities. Minimum Qualifications EducationA graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in health science (including, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology or respiratory therapy) OrA graduate of an associate or baccalaureate academic program in an unrelated field along with graduation from a certificate program in cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiology technology or respiratory. Experience No experience required Degrees, Licensures, Certifications RCIS, RCES, ARRT - RTR, ARRT - Radiography (R), ARRT - Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) , ARRT - Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV), ARRT - Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI), or IBHRE certification within 36 months of employment.Basic Life Support Certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required within 6 months of employment (Adult Cath, Adult EP, & Hybrid OR only).Duke employees in the CVIS job classification as of January 1, 2016 who were not eligible for certification will be exempt from the certification requirements of the CVIS I.
