The successful candidate will be board certified in medical oncology or hematology/oncology and has demonstrated interest and academic productivity in a field of thoracic oncology. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with a growing multi-disciplinary lung oncology program, participate in our large portfolio of clinical trials, and develop investigator-initiated trials. The predominant criteria include: a major commitment to research and scholarly activity that advances the field of medicine, teaching, excellence in clinical care, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill.Lung cancer treatment at Rush is a multi-disciplinary effort allowing providers to develop individualized treatment plans to optimally care for the patient. The thoracic oncology program at Rush currently provides care for the largest number of lung cancer patients in the Chicagoland area. The program boasts a clinical database and tumor/serum bank of over 4,000 patients with NIH funded translational research. Medical oncologists at Rush continue to participate year after year in multicenter trials of several immunotherapies for advanced and early-stage lung cancers. Rush researchers have been involved in early studies that led to the approval of erlotinib and continue to offer clinical trials testing the latest targeted therapies in solid tumors. Rush is one of only six medical centers in the country to partner with Tempus, a Chicago-based technology company using genomic mapping that will enable clinicians around the world to customize more effective treatments. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) chose Rush's lung cancer care team as one of only five worldwide recipients -- one of two in North America -- of the foundation's inaugural Cancer Care Team Award in 2017. Acknowledging cancer care teams across the globe who go above and beyond to provide the highest-quality patient care, the award is unique in that the recipients were nominated by patients. Our new, state-of-the-art Cancer Center facility opening in early 2023 in downtown Chicago will serve as a hub for services throughout our health system. Our core programs are supported by multi-disciplinary teams from hematology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, multiple research and bioinformatics core facilities, clinical operations, and dedicated clinical and support staff, including patient navigators. This structure allows specialists to more easily consult and evaluate patients based on tumor type or molecular and genomic signatures, combining our outstanding multidisciplinary approach with a data infrastructure that supports this patient-centered care. This integration enables us to make a greater commitment to research, dramatically scaling the effectiveness of clinical trials, and enabling translational research that moves bench to bedside, and bedside to bench.
