Details Posted: April 6, 2021 Location: Knoxville, Tennessee Show Map Salary: Open Discipline: Allied Health The incumbent serves as a generalist LEAD Medical Technologist in the William C. Tallent Outpatient Clinic Laboratory Service (KOPC) as part of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center healthcare facility. The medical technologist performs clinical laboratory technical duties in support of patient care at the William C. Tallent Outpatient Clinic. These assignments require specialized training and experience and have wide latitude for exercising independent judgment. Employees must have advanced knowledge of specialized and complex subject matter extending beyond the duties of test performance. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Facilitates team or unit processes by working in collaboration with team members or employees to ensure that tasks are completed and team priorities, goals, needs, and achievements are coordinated with management. Acts as a liaison between the team members and the supervisor. Prepares reports, maintains records, and administrative information. Prepares and presents work-related information to supervisor. Researches qualitative and quantitative methods in the appropriate laboratory specialty area. Performs statistical analysis on quality control and quality assurance monitors. Coordinates training in the methods and techniques of the appropriate laboratory specialty area. Maintains inventory control for supplies and reagents. Is responsible as a primary source of information for maintaining current instrumentation. Is responsible for evaluation of new and evolving developments in laboratory instrumentation and automation. Ensures compliance with rules and regulations of assorted regulatory agencies such as CAP, Joint Commission, AABB, FDA, and OSHA. Coordinates Quality Control activities with the Supervisor. Coordinates proficiency program for the appropriate laboratory specialty. The LEAD technologist plans and carries out the procedures necessary to complete the work assignment and handles problems, manage schedules, contracts and technical issues. The LEAD Technologist corrects errors in accordance with established protocols or accepted laboratory practices and policies. The LEAD Technologist reviews the staff's work reports for the technical soundness and conformity to policy and established requirements. Acts as liaison to other departments of the medical center for the appropriate laboratory specialty area. Performs the full range of laboratory testing duties listed at the full performance level, including duty on weekends, holidays, nights, and call-back. Performs phlebotomy and processing. Incumbent may be assigned to rotate to different areas of the laboratory at times of peak workload. Follows safety all required and recommended requirements. Performs calibration and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment. Utilizes printed and electronic files containing sensitive information and is responsible for protecting that information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in computer access agreement with the employee signs. Work Schedule: Tour to be discussed during interviews, will be four 10 hour days with a Saturday rotation.
