Details Posted: April 5, 2021 Location: Nashville, Tennessee Show Map Salary: Open Discipline: Allied Health Description Pharmacy Resident- PGY1- Term Professional-Monthly Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Role Summary: Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital Post-Graduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency program is a 12- month, full-time residency, in accreditation candidate status with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists in partnership with the American Pharmacists Association. The purpose of the PGY1 pharmacy residency is to build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. The mission of our program is to develop a pharmacist by focusing on establishing a core skill set in clinical practice, pharmacy operations and pharmacy leadership and management. More specifically, our program works on development of these core skills by focusing on patient care, advancing practice and improving patient care, teaching, education, and dissemination of knowledge. Preparing pharmacy residents with the skills and abilities to successfully practice as a clinical pharmacist, member of pharmacy leadership and management, adjunct faculty member, and/or be prepared to pursue and complete PGY2 residency training. This residency also includes developing a core skill set in drug information and literature evaluation, pharmacotherapy evaluation and management, project based research and team functioning, presentation development and delivery, and direct patient interaction. A broad range of experiences are incorporated into the residency curriculum. The focus is on clinical rotations in direct patient care settings and pharmacy administrative rotations. Residents also gain experience in medication use system, drug information and research pharmacy projects that are designed to improve patient care quality and safety. The resident will draft a manuscript of their research project that is suitable for publication. Required clinical experiences include internal medicine, critical care medicine, medication safety, and practice management/administration, but there are a variety of acute care electives available, including cardiology, infectious diseases, nutrition support, solid organ transplantation, oncology, pediatrics, and others. The staffing requirements vary, but the resident will gain experience in pharmacy operations throughout the year. The ASHP Residency Learning System and PharmAcademic is used extensively, which offers the resident a tailored, personalized and progressive learning experience throughout the year. Residents have the opportunity to gain teaching experience and assist preceptors with teaching pharmacy students from the local colleges of pharmacy. The resident will also gain experience in giving formal presentations throughout the year. An optional teaching certificate provided by one of the three local colleges of pharmacy may be obtained during the residency. This program is a multiple-site residency allowing for a variety of rotations at both Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. There is one PGY1 Pharmacy residency position. Vanderbilt also offers PGY2 specialty residencies in Cardiology, Critical Care, Infectious Diseases, Pharmacy Informatics, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Solid Organ Transplant. PGY2 specialty residencies require the successful completion of a PGY-1 residency year. Applicants should possess their pharmacy degree (Pharm. D. preferred).
