The Topeka, Kansas VA Hospital is currently seeking a full-time board certified/board eligible physician to join our Oncology Department. Our ideal candidate will enjoy a busy, heavy clinical practice, and be board certified in Hematology Oncology. The Topeka VA Hospital offers a rare opportunity for you to join a premier hematology/oncology team. You will work with a private staff (not shared) of highly experienced and collaborative, multi-certified Registered Oncology Nurses. All are experts at navigating patients through the complexities of multidisciplinary cancer care. This center of excellence has its own dedicated heme/onc pharmacist, social worker, palliative care team, and MSA. In-hospital specialists include interventional and diagnostic radiology/nuclear medicine, pathology, urology, ENT, and much more. Excellent VA and private radiation oncology are seamlessly available. Our onsite, state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner will come online this fall. Patients from other VA facilities, and from private practice, come to our heme/onc unit due to our reputation for compassionate quality of care and access to medications and modalities not available elsewhere. Be part of a multisite weekly Teletumor Conference to confer with specialists at other regional centers of excellence (including KUMC). You will have cross-coverage by our longtime oncologist, who is transitioning to retirement. We are looking for the right leader to build on our outstanding legacy. Become a part of a team providing compassionate care to Veterans. The selected individual will be responsible for performing duties to include, but not limited to, the following: Provide direct professional Hematology/Oncology services to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Evaluate and treat patients with known or suspected hematological/cancer disease Develop treatment plans including, but not limited to: diagnosis and treatment of hematological/oncology conditions including bone marrow biopsy & aspirations, chemotherapy infusions, oversight of chemotherapy infusions, rounding on hospitalized patients, attending in clinics, writing prescription medications, writing for consultative services, diet instructions, and other physician driven or exclusive decisions, provide consultative service to referring providers Provide medical and technical support and supervision to any Medicine Residents and/or students Provides and/or participates in the resident didactic and clinical care education program for any residents, students, or clinical staff of VA EKHCS Provide both medical and technical support, as applicable, to RNs, LPNs, Health Technicians, PA-Cs and NPs Participates in the Medical Center's Quality Management Program through Hematology/Oncology indicators, monitors and by provision of peer review for outcome occurrence screening. Performs other directly related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This will be full time 40 hours per week that typically will be scheduled Monday-Friday. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA Policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,00) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
