Details Posted: April 3, 2021 Location: Aurora, Colorado Show Map Salary: Open Discipline: Allied Health This position is located in the Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service, VA ECHCS. The MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST (COR/Assistant LIM) performs duties in the areas of Quality Management, Contracts, Assistant Laboratory Information Manager, and Document Control. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-11. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11. Duties include but are not limited to: Assist in development and recommends new policies and procedures regarding the installation and use of the laboratory information system (LIS) or the hospital information system (HIS) and bar code expansion project. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of coding and mapping for laboratory test ordering, reporting, billing, and workload recording systems. Perform interface validations for instrumentation and Vista Blood Establishment Computer Software (VBECS) for blood bank software updates. Analyze emerging trends, software, and technology and adopts appropriate methods for local programs to meet agency goals. Maintain competency to assist the key operator for service's Document Control System, Voicebrook, and Temp Traks temperature monitoring system. Ensure laboratory contracts are established, monitored, documented, funded and audited in accordance with the FAR, VISN19, and local policies. Act as Contracting Officer Representative for Laboratory Service contracts. Assist Supervisors/Specialists to identify needs for all technical/instrumentation requirements; create statement of work, sole source justification, independent government estimates, perform market research, requests funding documents according to policy and budget constraints. Ensure that laboratory policy and procedures are consistent with accrediting agencies standards and requirements as the relate to contracting. Serve as backup purchase card holder. Represent laboratory on appropriate medical center committees such a s Commodities Standards Board, ECHCS Equipment Committee, Chairs laboratory contracting meetings/VISN19 contract conference calls; and interact with other medical center staff such as Rocky Mountain Contracting (VISN19 RMCC), Fiscal Service and Logistics staff. Perform administrative work concerned with analyzing, developing, evaluating or promoting improvements in the procurement process ot maximize efficient operations for supply and service procurement. Prepare and analyze quality reports on contract status. Communicate effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member. Manage reimbursement for research testing and prepare quality documents for the Laboratory Manager for appropriate cost transfer/billing. Take initiative to organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines. Scans laboratory documents. Updates SOPs in the Proquis system. Perform other administrative duties as assigned. Assignments: These assignments require specialized training and experience and have wide latitude for exercising independent judgment. Employees must have advanced knowledge of specialized and complex subject matter extending beyond the duties of test performance. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.
