The Clinical Lead RN is a role developed to work in coordination with the nursing leadership in an assigned unit or department to ensure the work is accomplished effectively. The Clinical Lead RN is the first line support for staff, physicians and other related providers on service- specific clinical issues. The Clinical Lead RN is generally a long-term role, requiring clinical and interpersonal skills. The Clinical Lead RN collaborates with the manager on clinical and non-clinical issues (employee relations, individual behaviors, physician relationships, etc.). The Clinical Lead RN is the support for the unit/department/service when the manager is unavailable. The Clinical Team Leader is responsible for supervising, directing, coaching and mentoring their assigned core group of staff. Department Profile The Neuro IR/Vascular Radiology Unit at Duke Raleigh Hospital is a procedural area that performs procedures such as: mechanical thrombectomies, thrombolysis, port placement and removal, Kyphoplasty, lumbar drains, g-tube placement and exchange, IVC filter placement and removal, temp cath/HD line placement, Y-90 (phase 1 & 2), nephrostomy tube placement, pleurx drain placement, uterine fibroid embolization, and transjugular liver biopsy. We assist with a wide variety of procedures in both the IR suite and Cath Lab. The Radiology Nursing Unit at Duke Raleigh Hospital is a procedural area for Radiology. Prior experience in Radiology, Critical care and moderate sedation is strongly preferred. The Radiology Nursing/PICC Team nurses help the entire hospital with difficult IVs, PICC lines, moderate sedation in the Radiology procedural areas, and they do screening phone calls for patients prior to their procedure. Duties and Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities include all those required of the CN III as well as: Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff and ensure that all CBO and CBE requirements for staff are current. Plan and assist with coordination of unit staff schedules and submit for manager approval. Coordinate clinical requirements with staff regarding equipment and supplies. Consult with preceptors and orientees on a regular basis to provide support and determine how orientation should proceed on an individual basis. Collaborate with the manager for issue resolutions and projects to improve work flow processes throughout the department utilizing a proactive approach. Collaborate with different departments (pharmacy, radiology, lab, registration) to resolve issues and improve work flow processes throughout the department. Collaborate with the nurse managers in the interview process for new applicants. Mentor/coach staff to enhance their professional development. Assesses the performance of assigned new hires and orientees including entry level nurses, nursing care assistants and health unit coordinators; provides ongoing feedback and coaching. Mentor and monitor the preceptors for all new employees. Provide clinical/education updates and skill check-offs to entire staff on a regular basis. Provides immediate support and education on policy, procedures, equipment and supplies. Delegates responsibilities within the scope of practice and validated competencies in order to meet the workload demands of the shift. Facilitates staff performance audits related to attitude, team performance, The Joint Commission, DFS Standards and SCIP initiatives. Attends departmental and hospital committee meetings as assigned. Coordinates, facilitates, participates and directs departmental projects with follow-through and appropriate follow-up. Other projects and duties as directed by the department managers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of scope of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse and ability to assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements Knowledge of and appropriate application of the nursing process and their families designated by work area Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Knowledge of professional theory, practice and procedure routine and special treatments to patients interventions, evaluation and re-evaluation of patient status healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others Able to communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, Working knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering nursing care assistant Able to independently seek out resources and work collaboratively Able to teach patients and families in accordance with the nursing plan of care information, treatment, and follow-up Able to withstand prolonged standing and walking Minimum Qualifications Education Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required. Experience Three years of experience in nursing practice. Selected candidates must meet the Clinical Ladder requirements for CN III within one year of appointment. Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Must have current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina. AHA BLS certification is required.
