Details Posted: March 26, 2021 Location: Tomball, Texas Show Map Salary: Open Discipline: Allied Health Diagnostic radiologic technologists perform procedures and examinations in hospitals or clinics under the direction of radiologists and other medical officers. The objective of the examinations and procedures is to produce radiographic studies which are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by medical officers to locate injuries, foreign bodies, pathological conditions or lesions within the body. *This position will remain open until filled. The duties and responsibilities of the Diagnostic Fluoroscopic Radiologic Technologist include but are not limited to the following: Receiving requests and/or instructions for radiologic procedures. Interpreting requests and/or instructions of physicians for procedures. Securing confidence and cooperation of patients during examination procedures. Correctly identifying patient per MEDVAMC policy by using two identifiers prior to performing appropriate procedure and/or examination. Positioning or placing the body of the patient in the positions to obtain the views requested. (Positioning may include immobilizing the patient with straps, sandbags or cushions and shielding the patient from excess radiation with protective devices such as lead shields.) Determining the technical factors, setting the controls and operating radiographic equipment in order that the portion of the body specified receives the correct calculated exposure. ("Determining the technical factors" includes referring to guidelines and calculating the correct exposure factors of time, distance, kilovoltage, and milliamperage.) Use fluoroscopic equipment to follow contrast through difficult body organs and gives the radiologist images of the special studies. Protecting the patient from direct or secondary radiation by using proper exposures, films, filters, screens, etc., and by restricting the X-ray beam through use of cones, cylinders or collimators in order to expose only the designated area. Recognizing and reporting the malfunctioning of equipment to the supervisor. Performing clerical duties such as recording radiographic exposures in the Vista (CPRS) patient's chart, compiling daily work reports showing number and identification of patients, identifying X-ray images with the names of patients, and recording technical factors and materials used in studies where no guidelines are available. Keeping abreast of current technical literature and requirements of continuing education credits for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' accreditation. Instructing, assisting, and critiquing student technologists' images, techniques, and positioning of multiple patient examinations.
