Details Posted: February 15, 2021 Location: Great Falls, Montana Show Map Salary: Open Type: Full Time Discipline: Allied Health Job Summary: The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing an age-specific patient assessment prior to and during the ultrasound/vascular procedure, preparing the room and the patient for the procedure. The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for the operation of the diagnostic ultrasound equipment for the performance of all ultrasound procedures at a technical level not requiring direct supervision. The Ultrasound Technologist Specialist contributes to the efficient operation of the Diagnostic Ultrasound Department, promotes the organization's philosophy and ensures the quality and continuity of patient care. FLSA: NON-EXEMPT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Perform invasive ultrasound procedures, doppler vascular examinations, deep abdominal studies and color-flow ultrasound as required. Selects appropriate equipment for use in ultrasound setup, following exam specifications. Explains the test to the patient. Instructs and assists the patient in assuming the physical position for examination. Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Selects a transducer and adjusts the equipment controls according to the organ to be examined, the depth of field and other specifications of test. Enters exam and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results. Possesses and utilizes aseptic technique during invasive procedures. Participates in a call rotation according to schedule after hours, weekends and holidays. .Appropriately documents Ultrasound findings according to established protocols. Helps with the transportation of patients to and from the Ultrasound Department. Discusses test results with Radiologist or attending/ordering physician. Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed. Maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc. Assists with the scheduling of patients. Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction. Cleans and sterilizes transducers, supplies and equipment; stocks and replenish supplies as needed. Documentation meets current standards and hospital policy. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric and general population. Contribute to the departments' success through effective collaboration, active support of organizational initiatives and achievement of personal and organizational goals. Assist in identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement in supply management, labor costs and/or patient care. Demonstrates the ability to deal with pressure to meet deadlines, to be accurate, and to handle constantly changing situations. Demonstrates the ability to deal with a variety of people, deal with stressful situations, and handle conflict. Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code. Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements. Wears identification while on duty. Maintains confidentiality at all times. Attends department staff meetings as required within the department. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Coordinates efforts in meeting regulatory compliance, federal, state and local regulations and standards Communicates and complies with the Benefis Health System Mission, Vision and Values as well as the focus statement of the department. Education/Experience Requirements:Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is preferred but not required.Successful completion of an Ultrasound training program.Must be eligible for registry by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).One (1) year of radiologic/imaging experience preferredSDMS or ARDMS certification.Certification in area of specialty preferred Current BCLS certification.
