Mayo Clinic midwives provide antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care to women delivering at Mayo Clinic’s flagship location in Rochester, Minnesota and support the midwifery teams at satellite locations within the Mayo Clinic Health System. Midwives provide prenatal care through an innovative OB nest model that combines telehealth, at home medical devices, hands-on provider care and connected care visits with an OB nurse to reduce on-site visits and expand access to prenatal services based on patient preference. As a unit, obstetrics team members assist in the delivery of more than 2,400 babies each year.Additional career opportunities include academic advancement, leadership of committees and teams, participation in quality improvement projects and research studies, and development of leading edge innovation. CNMs are encouraged to join hospital committees focused on strategic planning and clinical guideline development and management. Midwives also play an integral role in the clinical education of midwives, resident physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and medical students. CNMs are eligible for faculty status through the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and provide didactic and clinical teaching to learners throughout their educational program. Mayo Clinic midwives further the midwifery credential on a national scale through engagement with professional associations, advocacy, publication, and presentation at conferences. Qualifications Masters or Doctoral prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and midwifery program accredited by the American College of Nurse Midwives. Body mobility, coordinated dexterity of hands, ears, and eyes; sensory acuity, and verbal ability are required. Experience as a teacher or preceptor in an academic medical center, participation in quality improvement or research projects, and expertise in multidisciplinary team collaboration are desirable. Additional certifications in Obstetric Ultrasound, Advanced Fetal Monitoring and/or Lactation consultation are preferred. License or certification Eligible for RN and APRN licensure in Minnesota.
